Dollars for Scholars -- It's not Too Late!
WHS PTO's major fundraiser for 2009-10
has kicked into gear! Mail in your form or download one to mail. A huge thank you to this year's donors! Remember, there are no items to buy or sell, no events to attend. Your contribution goes directly back to our campus, dollar for dollar! Every contribution--large or small--is important. Last year, we purchased TV's for the Commons along with DirecTV for WHS, plus provided funding to the academic departments, scholarships and lots more!

Let's get ready to rumble...WHS Back-to-School Bash
Students, parents and staff come together Friday, August 21, to experience that great Westside spirit! We’ll start at 6:00 pm in the Auditorium where Principal Castro will give everyone a look ahead and share some of the new and exciting things in store for the coming year and our Inertia Dancers, Cheerleaders and Pride will pump things up at our first Pep Rally of the year. If you’re new to Westside, we’ll also have some tips on making a smooth transition during the first few weeks of school.
Then it’s off to the Commons where local restaurants will offer a variety of dinner options and you’ll have some one-on-one time with staff, students and parents. Visit with the deans and learn more about our small schools, talk to the coaches and stop by the numerous tables featuring our clubs and organizations. Our PTO and other parent organizations will be more than happy to share their insights on getting involved at the high school level and we’ll have great WHS spirit items for sale.
We’ll wrap things up at 7:30 so don’t miss a minute of this entertaining and informative evening. Please join us and find out why we’re Westside Proud!

Our meetings are the first Tuesdays of each month and they are listed on the school calendar and e-newsletter. Lots of good information and fellowship!

WHS PTO Awards $12,000 in Scholarships!
The Westside PTO is excited to announce the 12 winners of the 2009 Westside Spirit Scholarships! They are Lindsay Becker, Mary DeForke, Sarah Drury, Adam France, Spencer Laufer, Andrew Manks, Michael Noriega, John Rushing, Kena Schaberg, Meredith Stevens, Maggie Strange, and Erika Willrodt. Each scholarship is for $1,000. Applicants had to have a GPA of at least 2.5, submit two teacher recommendations as well as a 250-word essay. A huge thank you goes to Ms. Karacek and the Scholarship Committee for managing the challenging selection process! Congratulations to these deserving students!

2009-2010 WHS PTO Board Elected April 7
Congratulations to the newly elected PTO Executive Board! The officers for 2009-2010 are: President – Cathy McDonnell; 1st VP/Membership – Christie Petrie; 2nd VP/Fundraising – Kiki Hummel; Treasurer – Kelly Simmons; Recording Secretary – Debbie Noriega; Corresponding Secretary – Janna Wright; VIPS Coordinators – Shelby Doehring and Rhonda Monteverde; Parliamentarian – Kelly CramerIn addition, the faculty will be electing two of its members to serve on the PTO Executive Board along with Paul Castro. And the PTO still needs YOU! Volunteers are still needed for various committees, including the Back-to-School Bash and Homecoming Dance.
